ShadowHunter Instructions
GETTING STARTED
When you first start ShadowHunterII you will be prompted with a
small box of VIDEO DRIVERS. Select whichever one best supports your video card. You may
want to play around with selection to see which one displays the fastest and highest
quality during gameplay.
| SELECT VIDEO DRIVER - | If you have an enhanced
graphics accelerator card it is strongly recommended that you select GLIDE. Be sure
NOT to select 320x200 if you can help it. This video mode is somewhat outdated and results
can be unpredictable. If your selection provides slow or poor quality, try another
selection. |
| ENTER YOUR NAME - | When asked by main screen to load up or create a new character to play. Note that characters that have been in the dungeon and have been killed are not available even if saved. |
| MOVING AROUND | THE BEST WAY TO MOVE AROUND is to move the mouse
around to look and point your character's eyes in the direction you want to move... THEN
use the keyboard ARROW keys to move forward and backward. Press the RIGHT button to jump and the LEFT button to fire. |
| MISSIONS | Each time you enter the game or complete a mission, a NEW mission is shown. Try to complete these immediate goals by finding or killing the required amounts shown. Note: you can see your current mission by pressing I to show your inventory screen. In order to meet mission objectives, you will quickly realize that cannot spend all your Gold or use all of your Keys to open doors. |
ITEMS IN THE DUNGEON
Each time you play ShadowHunter the objects and monsters are
different inside the dungeon. The makes each time you play ShadowHunter a new and
challenging game. Although each section of the dungeon (only 1 included in the
playable demo) is not too large, it is easy to get lost inside. You may want to make a map
as you go?
| BAGS OF GOLD - | Bags found inside the dungeon can offer much more than just gold. There are rare jewels worth thousands and also keys that can be priceless. Sometimes these bags are very heavy and remember, you can only carry as much as your strength will allow. Also beware, for some bags contain traps that can blow up! |
| ELIXIRS - | Beware of these mysterious potions located throughout the dark passages, for you never know what you are drinking. It can be health sometimes or poison. Or perhaps it will increase your strength or intelligence. |
| ARMOR - | Armor is rarely found just lying around inside the dungeon. It is more likely you will have to purchase some at one of the many stores throughout. Armor can help you tremendously, as it can block nearly half the damage inflicted upon you. Your armor will decrease with each hit, so watch it carefully as it can save your life. |
| BOOTS - | Boots are important to protect your feet. Dungeon Rodents will occasionally bite at your feet. Boots are a wise invenstment in the dungeons. Note: boots are damaged with each bite. |
| DOORS | There are 3 types of doors inside the dungeon: Unlocked, Locked, and Secret. Locked doors required a Key and Secret doors can be opened by pressing the D key. Secret doors are usually a wall that looks a little different somehow. |
| KEYS | Key are found in bags of gold and are required to unlock locked doors. BEWARE for once a key is used it is removed from your inventory. Make sure you don't get trapped by not having enough keys to get out of a locked room. |
| STORES - | Stores are where you can purchase more weapons, ammo and armor (if you have any gold). You can also save your character here too. Stores are located in a deep red fog. Simply press the S key to start purchasing. Beware! For you can still be attacked while purchasing items from a store. Also note that not all items found in the store can be used until your character has the knowledge to use them. Remember to stock up good, but try not to spend all of your gold each time you visit a store, as mission objectives require a certain amount of gold. |
| BLOOD KNIVES - | Knives containing drops of blood are scattered throughout the dungeon. Find a Dungeon Rodent to harvest the blood from these knives and take it to the Blood Door. (you must summon rodent to be your slave first) |
| SCROLLS - | Scrolls that are found inside the dungeon can teach you skills of magic. But only the intelligent can read these scrolls. You might want to drink some elixirs before trying to read any scrolls. Each scroll teaches a different skill. Once your character has read a scroll, knowledge becomes available (shown in the inventory screen) |
| BLOOD DOORS | Blood doors need to be fed blood in order to open. |
| TRANSPORT | Transporters will teleport you to the next dungeon if the electric field is high enough. Find GlowStones to build up the electric energy. |
MONSTERS
Each time you play ShadowHunter the monsters and their
locations are different inside the dungeon. Each monster has it's own strengths and
weaknesses. The overall strength of each monster is determined by its level. Beware of
strong monsters and be prepared to run if needed. By no means attempt to attack a level 10
monster if you are only a level 1.
| RODENTS - | Dungeon Rodents don't do
much in the way of inflicting damage except for you feet. (purchase some boots at the
store) They can be summoned for harvesting the blood from old knives by pressing the E key when near. |
| BATS - | These winged demons can be tricky to target when casting upon. They are fast, agile and spit fire. |
| GIANT SPIDERS - | An eight legged foe who's only purpose is to feed. It feeds by burning is prey with a web of fire and then sucking them dry. |
| ZOMBIES - | Zombies are slow and already dead. So only burning their physical flesh will destroy their attempts to kill you. |
| SHADOWS - | Shadows are by far the most dangerous. They have no physical flesh to destroy. |
PLAYER CHARACTERISTICS
The characteristics of your player are the most important
part of this game. Without a player with strong characteristics you will not succeed in
your quest. Once you have built up your characteristics you may save them so that each
time you enter the dungeon you have a character that is a worth opponent. Certain spells,
weapons and capabilities are not available to those without certain levels of
characteristics.
| LEVEL - | This is the overall strength and experience of your character. This number allows you to judge your capabilities with that of your opponents. For example, if you are only a level 1 you should never try to attack a fully healthy level 5 or higher opponent. |
| EXPERIENCE - | With each kill, you gain experience. Once your experience reaches a certain amount you gain a level. Killing a level 5 zombie is worth more than killing a level 1 rodent, and therefore you will receive experience accordingly. |
| STRENGTH - | Strength is required to lift objects, such as gold. Strength can be gained by drinking magic potions. |
| INTELLIGENCE - | Intelligence is important to learn new skills by reading scrolls printed in languages not know by all.. It can be increased by drinking certain potions. |
| CHARISMA - | Determines how strong a spell or weapon is used. |
WEAPONS AND SPELLS
When you enter the dungeon for the first time, you are naked
with only a small amount of fire spells and no armor. You will have to find gold and then
a store to purchase more weapons to fight the darkness inside the dungeon.
| FIRE SPELL | You start off with a small amount of fire spells in your inventory. However, the fire spell is not very strong but it is an easy spell to use since it requires no knowledge. Its cheap and readily available at any store along the way. |
| MAGIC SKULLS | The Skulls are thrown at your opponent and will explode on impact or if nothing is hit it will explode a few seconds later. [Knowledge required to use] |
| KNIVES OF THRUST | A powerful rocket-like spell that casts knives like missiles. [Knowledge required to use] |
| MAGIC ARROWS | These are the cheapest to purchase from the store at only about 2 pieces of gold each. However, they go pretty quickly at about 30 arrows a second. [Knowledge required to use] |
| DARK EYE | Press the E key when throwing Magic Skulls to throw a Dark Eye instead. These small explosive eyes will not explode until someone carelessly steps on one. Note after a long time they will self destruct. Once an Eye is thrown, it can be moved by using F, G, V, and T |
MAKING A RODENT A HARVESTER
Dungeon Rodents can be turned into slaves. Press the E key
when close to a DUNGEON RODENT and then they will be your slave. Then find a knife to
harvest blood from and press the Z key.
| SUMMON | Press the E key to summon a rodent to harvest. |
| HARVEST | Press the Z key when next to blood knife to show rodent where to harvest blood. (you must summon rodent to be your slave first) |
SAVING A CHARACTER
Once you've acquired a few skills and some knowledge, you may
want to save your character for future use. But BEWARE for if you're killed in the
dungeons, your character is erased from the saved file. Saving a character is only
available from a store. [50 gold pieces required]

IMPORTANT TIPS AND HINTS
1. Using YOUR weapon or spell too close to walls and objects can backfire
and hurt you!
2. Each mission requires a certain amount of gold and keys. Don't use all your
keys or spend all your gold!
3. DON'T GET TRAPPED! Exit locked rooms you've opened immediately. If you have no keys to
open the door again, you will get trapped and have to hit ESC key.
4. Saving your character is only good if you are leaving the game. You cannot load
a character once you've been killed.
5. If you begin a new game with a previously saved character, the monsters in the dungeon
will adjust difficulty with your character's level. (in otherwords the monsters will be
close to the same level your character is)
6. Look for secret doors by
pressing the D key. Sometimes you can't exit a level unless you open a secret door.
7. Monsters get stonger each time they have been killed.
OBJECTIVE
How many immediate missions can you successfully complete? Or perhaps
you'd like to build your character's experience and strength to an unbelievable
"level" status? But don't forget, there is a young girl who awaits your rescue
deep within the darkness of the dungeon. You must ultimately find and save the imprisoned
